I also wanted to mention that our neighbor, Read Ink Books set up a tent next to ours offering insane discounts on fantastic books! After Hurricane Tent Sale
November 19 & 20

The store is all cleaned up, thanks to our fantastic cleanup crew (Erin, Jo, Alex, Amanda & Tate)! We will be posting a 'cleaning up montage' just for fun in a few days. It looks as good as ever. Maybe even cleaner!

We have officially decided to postpone the Halloween Sale until November 19 & 20 (as long as the city allows us to have the permit for those days) The sale will be exactly as it would have been this weekend, but hopefully with much better weather!! Please spread the word that the sale will take place at this later date.

We are going to be offering 10% Off everything in the store this weekend (Oct. 29 & 30) as a consolation to anyone who makes it in.

Thank you to everyone who came in today and we hope things are back to "normal" soon!

WE'RE OPEN!
We cannot believe it, but we have POWER! YAY! We are open - now! Please excuse the mess as we clean up. New books for this week will probably available by 4pm. Please be patient! We're expecting a truck to deliver it soon. :-)

We're not sure what will happen with the big sale this weekend, it definately won't be what we were expecting. Maybe we'll have a mini version of it this weekend and have the BIG sale mid-November! Yay! Please check for updates, we'll make flyers and stuff of course!

This is what we are dealing with to clean-up.

Hurricane Wilma Blew the Big One.
Wow. This is much worse than we had anticipated! We had actually hoped to be OPEN on Tuesday. Ha!! This really sucks. No one has power. The whole county looks like a war zone. Trees down EVERYWHERE, gas stations all torn up. Millions without electricity. You can't believe the lines to get gas and ice!! Obviously, we have to be closed.

The store is FINE. All we have to worry about there is cleaning up the big mess caused by this weird dark brown insulation dust that always comes from the ceiling during big storms... we just need to vacuum & wipe to take care of that. No biggie.

Guess there will be no Halloween sale this weekend. Even if we HAD electricity, no one has any gas to drive to us! we will certainly be having an "After Hurricane" Sale in November! :-)

If you can, call the store, if the answering machine picks up - that means we have POWER (yay!) and we will be open that day. If no answering machine picks up... it will be another day. As soon as we can!

We still don't really know what will happen with this weeks new books. I guess we'll just double up next week (hopefully it will BE next week!)

We all hope every one of our customers fared okay. No one was completely spared, but some got it worse than others. We'll see you all soon and we thank you in advance for you support!!!

If you are from out of town, check out www.sun-sentinel.com for lots of photos and coverage.

Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
Lucky for us we all survived the storm okay... it is our hope that you and your homes are okay too. No damage was done to the store. Everything inside is covered with a thin layer of fine dark drown dust/roof debris. We've got the wipe EVERYTHING down. Also, the "Promenade Shoppes" wooden marquee sign completely blew away! A couple of trees are down too, but nothing too devestating, thank goodness!

1:30PM; The entire Promenade shopping center (home of the store and the Gaming Satellite) has no power. Hopefully that will be back on SOON. As soon as it comes back on we will open for business. We should be open for business regular hours on Saturday. But, please call!! Even if you call before opening hours-- if the answering machine picks up that means that the power is back on and we will be OPEN!! We'll post a notice here if we know more. We apologize for any inconvenience and we hope to see you soon!

Tate's REALLY gonna be on CHANNEL 7 this time!
Well, the Channel 7 report never ran due to an unexpected car chase in Broward county that preempted EVERYTHING else. It is supposed to air THIS coming Thursday at 5:30pm. Check it out if you can! :-)

The "Monsters of Lowbrow" art show in Miami went well, Francesco LoCastro and Donnamarie Baptiste put on a beautiful show. We hope that some of the folks that we met there will make the trip and become new customers of TATE'S! It was a great time. Photos will be posted shortly.

TLC, who has been filming a "reality" show in South Florida called Miami Ink, were at the show and there is a good chance our merchandise area will be in the show when it airs! Cool! Look for us in the final episode. Serena will almost certainly be on the show as well, she was filmed getting tattooed for the show two times! Should be an interesting show...

Tate's gonna be on CHANNEL 7!
Channel 7's Fox News came into the store this past Thursday to film a segment about Star Wars (since the movie is coming out soon). It will be on this coming Thursday, MAY 5th at 5:30pm.
Don't miss it! :-) Photos of the shoot can be seen HERE.

Free comic book day is this coming Saturday, May7th. We will have lots of goodies to give away! Come by and pick up your Free Comics!

This coming weekend is also the "Monsters of Lowbrow" art show in Miami. See you there!

Tate in a Miami Herald article, on the front page!
On the front page of today's Miami Herald there is an article entitled "Anime Magnetism Draws Fans to South Florida", it fortells of next weekend's Miami anime convention, OtakuCon (www.otakucon.com). There is a photo of Tate (he looks a bit sad in it though) and a couple sentences about the store towards the end of the article. Yay! We love publicity! From: Amy Dickinson, Ask Amy
DEAR AMY: I have an alternative place to go to find a guy - the local comic book shop. I don't mean the single spinner rack at the local chain bookstore, but a real comics shop. Comics are not just for kids. They're great storytelling devices. Men who go to comic book shops have good values, are of all sizes and ethnicities, and the time they spend in the shop and reading is time they are not cheating on someone or getting sloppy drunk. Dating a geek isn't a bad thing - my girlfriend doesn't mind. Go on a Wednesday, because that's when the new issues get delivered.
-Comic Genius
DEAR GENIUS: I love your suggestion, so I field tested it at a comic book store in downtown Chicago - on a Wednesday. You're right! There were lots of guys there! However, here's the thing about comic book stores - the guys who go there really like comic books. I spoke with a female employee who said that the ratio of men to women is very favorable (to women), at about 20-1, and that they all have something in common: They really like comic books. What I like about your idea is that it is a great reminder that it is good for all of us to leave our comfort zone. Trying new things makes people more interesting. Interesting people are more attractive. The problem is that comic book stores are full of people who really like comic books. When you choose to meet people at a place that has a specific focus, it helps if you share that focus. Comic book collecting is a hobby, which isn't everyone's cup of tea, although I did pick up a couple of "storytelling devices."

Busy, Busy, Busy!
With the BIG Halloween Sale coming up this weekend, we've been really crazy getting everything ready. It is a lot of WORK! Our 'under tent' area will be even bigger than it was last time and we will have TONS of great T-shirts, toys & statues on super-mega-sale to choose from! Don't miss this sale, it is going to be great! Like last year, customers who come to the sale dressed in a costume will have their photo taken and be posted on our website (special events/archive/photos) and receive a $5 OFF Coupon, good for use after the sale! Kids under 10 who come dressed up will get a nifty goody bag with little toys & candy in it. We are also giving away a great TATE'S Halloween '04 Button, while supplies last.It is also a big week for comic books, with 70 titles out this Wednesday!
Also, I'm sure this is beating a dead horse... but don't forget to go out and VOTE on Tuesday! It is very, very important!
